Public Affairs Cymru launches principles of behaviour ahead of Senedd vote
Public Affairs Cymru (PAC) has launched a set of principles for political representatives’ engagement with public affairs professionals ahead of the Senedd election in 50 days’ time.
PAC believes that public affairs professionals play an important role in the democratic process bringing evidence, expertise and lived experience to the policy making process and that the safety and dignity of its members must be recognised.
With 50 days’ to go until the 2026 Senedd election, where 96 Members will be elected and the Welsh Parliament elected on a more proportional system, PAC is working with their members to ensure that the sector is supported and that they can showcase ethical and responsible advocacy with a high priority placed on mutual respect between those who make policy and those who advocate for change.
Commenting on the principles, Chair of Public Affairs Cymru, Emma Henwood said:
“From one-on-one meetings with elected representatives to attending political conferences with party members, our sector is committed to ensuring that policy makers receive evidenced based information in a respectful and professional manner.
“It is only fair and right that our members are treated with the same respect as we deliver as public affairs professionals.
“With the expansion of the Senedd and a number of MSs being elected for the first time, we want to make sure that the Seventh Senedd sets a high standard for lobbying and political engagement.”
With Senedd Members debating Stage 3 of the Senedd Cymru (Member Accountability and Elections) Bill and the code of conduct for Members of the Senedd in their final Plenary sessions before the election, PAC hopes that this new code of conduct will support effective engagement and contribute to a strengthened culture of integrity and transparency.
